Alaska, British Columbia and USA 2022

We return to Alaska again and cruise the magnificent Inside Passage between June-August 2022. It’s an amazing journey with spectacular wildlife and anchorages.

We depart New Zealand at the end of May 22 and do our upwind motor/sail to Honolulu. Its a short ‘Aloha’ stopover in Honolulu’s Waikiki Yacht Club. We always enjoy our trips to Honolulu! However we are soon donning our warm gear and sailing North East towards Sitka, a cute fishing village on Baranof Island in Alaska.

From here we slowly meander south visiting Juneau, Hoonah, Pelican, Petersburg transiting the Wrangell Narrow’s to Ketchikan then finally Prince Rupert. We anchor at various anchorages every few nights. The weather was surprisingly hot in Juneau and followed us down throughout. Hot days and cool evenings. This was a far cry from our last visit where it rained every day! We see many bald eagles, lots of whales, spot some bears, drink some beers, enjoy the solitude, eat plenty of Halibut and King Crab and enjoy what Alaska has to offer.

Following our Alaska trip we berth at Victoria in British Columbia for a few nights. This little town is a hive of activity during the summer months and is well worth a visit.

However we must soon begin our journey south to San Francisco via the West Coast. This stretch of water can be notoriously lumpy but the weather gods are shining down on us for our quick 4 day trip. We enter US Customs via Port Angeles, pick up some delivery crew and off we sail.

San Francisco is always fun. We even manage a sail around the San Francisco Bay! We catch the last of the summer sun in Sausalito and head south again to San Diego where we park up for a few weeks. San Diego has a great marina downtown. Mexican food, Petco Park(baseball..), The Rady Shell for some great live music and a great climate. It was hard to leave!

But we are always excited to return home, back to New Zealand. Its been a great few months of cruising. Our journey home from Honolulu to Auckland is 15 days and we arrive back to Auckland on 25 November just in time for the Christmas rush!
