We are back! NZ Refit 2020

Following an extensive refit at Orams Marine in Auckland, we finally launched the boat back in the water. What a year its been!

Pre Covid (early March 2020), we pulled the rig out in Gulf Harbour and then hauled the boat into Orams Marine shed in Auckland. Our rig was getting an overhaul and repaint so Gulf Harbour was a good base. Back in Auckland we were getting the boat painted plus a new teak deck as the original was starting to wear a little thin..(JOW was launched from Alloy Yachts in 2005). We had also planned some smaller works around the engine room and interior. It was literally all hands on deck!

However, all works came to a halt during the Covid lockdown.

A few weeks later, the country started to reduce its lockdown levels which meant we could finally get back to work. It was a very surreal and stressful time remerging from Covid lockdown and getting back to work – QR codes, masks, hand sanitizer, keeping a distance. Every person that worked onboard during those times – we will forever be indebted to. Good ol’ Kiwi ingenuity.

So fast forward 7 months later and SY Janice of Wyoming launches back in the water(without any hiccups!). We picked up our rig last week and we are finally starting to look like a sailing boat again. The paint job looks fantastic as well as the beautiful new teak deck(courtesy of our friends at Teakdecking Systems/USA). We still have a bit more work to do and look forward to getting her back sailing again in the not to distant future! Stay tuned..

Thanks to all the crew at Orams Marine and associated contractors who worked onboard SY Janice of Wyoming over the last few months. You guys rock.
